Cosmology for the Future (2024-2025) is a new mural painted on the walls of the common room within the library attached to the Nagi Museum of Contemporary Art. Sandra Cinto has frequently collaborated with locals and children around the world when creating her art, and this piece was similarly made together with the children of Nagi.
During Forest Festival of the Arts Okayama 2024, a workshop was held for local children to create drawings themed on “the sky”, which were then displayed in the common room alongside a table decorated with tiles featuring the artist’s own drawings. These drawings by Cinto and the children were then blended together to produce one large mural on vividly colored tiles. This brilliant image of the future, woven together from the artist’s cosmology and the children’s innate creativity, now decorates the walls of the library common room.
Originally created for Forest Festival of the Arts Okayama 2024, this work now remains on long-term installation.

- Sandra Cinto
Born in 1968 Brazil. Sandra Cinto graduated from the Centro Universitário Teresa D’Ávila (UNIFATEA) in Brazil in 1990. She considers drawing a form of language and works across various forms including painting, installation, and sculpture. Inspired by complex and fascinating natural phenomena such as the movement of waves, weather, and abundant flora and fauna, she not only captures these elements in images, but considers fluidly changing spaces, with their music, scents, and shifting light, as art in and of themselves. She also cherishes connecting and collaborating with others through her creative process and has often worked with local people and children to create artwork.

Designed by the world-renowned architect Arata Isozaki, the Nagi MOCA is the world’s first hands-on, experience-oriented museum. It is a public building that integrates art and the structure on a semi-permanent basis. Mount Nagi forms its background, such that it takes on a different appearance every day and every season.
