Known as Japan’s oldest limestone cave documented in historical records, Bitchu Kanachi-ana Cave is mentioned in Nihon Sandai Jitsuroku, a historical chronicle compiled in 901. Highlights include “Donai Fuji,” a massive stalagmite measuring 3 meters high and 5 meters in diameter, and “Gojunoto” (Five Storied Pagoda), a spectacular formation of stalactites with 22 tiers. The cave maintains a temperature of around 9°C throughout the year and is designated a Natural Monument of Okayama Prefecture.
