Born in 1990, Shiori Higashiyama received her master’s degree from Tokyo University of the Arts in 2016.
Taking borderlines between people as a major perspective, Higashiyama produces flat works based on her research in areas including unconscious or conscious acts to protect one’s body and soul, and related things (tents, trees, mattresses, fences stories and other fiction, weapons, defensive gear, battle formations, and hedges). She repeatedly paints motifs like patterns and utilizes a technique that composes space with admixture of different scales and paths. Her main exhibitions have been Personal Hedges (NADiff apart, Tokyo, 2023), boundary line, second 2., (Tokyo, 2022), VOCA Exhibition 2024 (Ueno Royal Museum, Tokyo, 2024), and Constitution of Japan (MUJIN-TO Production, Tokyo, 2023).
