Nobuhiro Shimura born in 1982 in Tokyo. Currently based in Chiba.
Completed his master’s degree in Imaging Arts and Sciences at Musashino Art University in 2007. Shimura has produced many site-specific works based on video installations using everyday objects and landscapes as subjects, intervening in gaps in the city and in architectural spaces. In recent years, he has been concentrating on projects that focus on the documentary and temporal aspects of the moving image medium, such as making films that incorporate a documentary approach based on fieldwork in various regions, and incorporating archives of films left behind in the region into installations. His recent exhibitions include Afternote: Memories and Archives of Cinema in Yamaguchi City (Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media [YCAM], 2023-2024) and Garden of Life: Eight Contemporary Artists Venture into Nature (Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum, 2020-2021).
